MATILDA!
Matilda - The Musical
Another chapter in MPS history was made in the last week of the Autumn Term, as the Main Hall was transformed into the corridors of Crunchem Hall for our first ever whole-school production of Matilda.
Based on the 1988 book of the same name by Roald Dahl, the story features Matilda Wormwood (played by Bella J), a girl who’s intelligence, wit and charm captures the heart and mind of her teacher Miss Honey (played by Louisa J). However, her love of learning is thwarted by her parents (played by Jack H and Freya R) and the cruelty of the iconic Headmistress Miss Agatha Trunchbull (played by Gabriel K). The story follows Matilda’s journey to change her story, accompanied with music by Tim Minchin and featuring some fantastic songs including Naughty, When I Grow Up and Revolting Children.
The cast worked extremely hard in rehearsals throughout the Autumn Term, going from audition to performance in just 14 weeks and culminating in three fully sold-out public performances and an open dress rehearsal to local primary schools, with outstanding performances from everyone involved.
The cast were supported by Performing Arts students from Reigate College leading choreography, while The Harlequin Theatre provided some superb lighting effects, giving students the opportunity to work with arts partnerships across the local area. We are incredibly proud of all the students who took part, and would like to thank everyone who came along to watch and support the show.
Huge thanks to Mrs Eckersall, Mr Davis and Mrs Green for their time, effort and unwavering enthusiasm and support throughout the entire Autumn term. Also, many thanks to Leo Smythe, a former MPS student, for the incredible photography.
