Homework frequency

Homework expectation and frequency increases as students progress through the school. This is to assist students with their transition to secondary school, and to give them time to engage in the many extracurricular activities that we offer. The frequency of homework reflects their school year in the following manner:

Year 7

● Tier 1 - Weekly: English, Maths, Science and Humanities.

● Tier 2 - Fortnightly: French and Art.

Year 8

● Tier 1 - Weekly: English, Maths, Science and Humanities.

● Tier 2 - Fortnightly: French and Art.

● Tier 3 - Once a half term: Design and Technology (Food, Resistant Materials), Music, Drama and Computing.

Year 9

● Tier 1 - Weekly: English, Maths and Science.

● Tier 2 - Fortnightly: History, Geography, French, Art, Design and Technology (Food, Resistant Materials), Music, Drama and Computing.

● Tier 3 - Once a half term: Religious Studies.

Years 10 and 11

● In Key Stage Four, when students are studying their GCSEs, homework is set weekly in all subjects that lead to public examinations.

Setting of homework

All homework is set by the teacher using our communication system, ClassCharts. The homework should always specify how to complete it, whether that be in students’ books, on an online resource, on Google Classroom, or another method unique to that subject area. There should always be at least two evenings from when the homework is set and its due date, to allow students sufficient time to complete it.

To ensure Homework is completed to a high standard, students should:

  • check they have understood the task and made a note of the due date

  • complete homework to the best of their ability

  • extend their interests by reading widely around the topics

  • attend Study Space if they need more support. Study Space is available everyday in E102 before school from 8.00 - 8.30 and after school from 3.15 - 4.15. Computers are available to use for online tasks and all students are welcome to attend
