Poppy Cascade

This Remembrance Day, a heartwarming and creative tribute was presented by the members of the Knitting Club which is led by Mrs Mahmood. The students came together to create a stunning knitted poppy cascade in honour of those who served in wars past and present. The project has become a tangible expression of remembrance, knitting together both community spirit and history.

The cascade, which will be displayed in the front entrance of the school, features vibrant red knitted poppies cascading from a metal structure. Each poppy was made by the students themselves, with many dedicating hours of their time to handcraft each one with care. The poppies have been displayed flowing down in a graceful and poignant representation of remembrance and the sacrifices made by soldiers throughout history and in present day.

The initiative was led by the school's Knitting Club, which meets weekly to learn the art of knitting and crochet. Club supervisor, Mrs Mahmood, shared her pride in the students’ dedication to the project. “I am so proud of the students who contributed although they are new to knitting, they kept going and didn't give up” she said.

"Dasie has been an exceptionally helpful.  Although she chooses not to knit, she ensures the students register and have what they need to get started. There have been times where I have been down a staff member so Husayn 7NU has stepped in to support students and demonstrate how to knit. Athena (9GA) has also been another student who has stepped in to support students. Tanya (9GA) has been brilliant in contributing the most poppies out of the students. Anjali (7ME) has been so resilient in learning, she was struggling to begin with but an extra session after school allowed her to grasp the skill a bit better. Nissa (7PR) managed to complete two poppies.

Anjali (7ME), Molly (7GA), Bhargavi (9ME) and Ruth (7GA) are all students who have managed to knit towards the completion of a poppy".
