MPS Welcomes the Royal Ballet and Opera

On Wednesday 16 September, more than 260 Year 5 and 6 pupils from six local primary schools came together at MPS for a special singing and vocal workshop led by artists from the world-famous Royal Ballet and Opera (RBO).

The children explored how stories can be told through music, discovering the characters and plot of Mozart’s The Magic Flute before having the opportunity to sing an aria from the opera themselves.

The day also featured a performance from MPS students, who sang a song from last year’s production of Annie Jr. In addition, 22 Key Stage 3 and 4 students took part in an inspiring singing masterclass with RBO artists Elinor Moran and Freya Wynn-Jones, focusing on the music and movement of Rossini’s The Barber of Seville.

The event marks the beginning of an exciting new partnership between MPS, the Royal Ballet and Opera and Surrey Music Hub, helping to embed singing within the curriculum and inspire children to continue singing as they make the transition from primary to secondary school.

A huge well done to everyone who took part so enthusiastically. We look forward to hearing even more singing around MPS!
