An update on our new school
We have been working closely with the Department for Eduction (DfE) to establish the plans for future accommodation for Merstham Park. In turn, the DfE is working with Surrey County Council and the planning team at Reigate and Banstead Borough Council.
All parties are committed to ensuring that Merstham Park School has sufficient and appropriate accommodation and facilities to support the successful delivery of the curriculum and pastoral care for the students.
The original timeline provided by Surrey County Council indicated that the construction of the new school building would be able to start during summer 2019. We are now aware that there has been a delay to this timeline.
As a result we are currently working with the DfE to agree accommodation plans for 2019-20 as well as 2020-21; these discussions will take account of the additional facilities that the students will need access to as they progress through secondary school.
We are confident that we can continue to provide an excellent education for our students in temporary accommodation, as has been proven in other new schools in Surrey which have opened in temporary accommodation for their first three years.
We look forward to welcoming around 120 students in September 2019 with this increasing to 180 in September 2020.
