Brooklands Trip
Yesterday, some of our Year 8 and 9 students got an opportunity to embark on an exciting science trip to Brooklands Museum, a place steeped in British engineering history. From the moment they arrived, our students were immersed in a world of innovation, linking classroom science to real-world achievements in aerospace and automotive design.
A highlight of the day was stepping aboard the iconic Concorde jet. Our students explored its sleek cabin and learnt about the incredible engineering that made supersonic flight possible. Lessons on aerodynamics and forces came alive as they discovered how Concorde achieved speeds faster than sound. The tour also included a closer look at vintage cars and racing machines, where students learnt how science and engineering shaped performance and design over the decades.
The excitement continued in the hands-on propeller racing workshop. Armed with their knowledge of physics, forces, and air resistance, our students designed and built their own propeller-powered cars. Experimenting with friction and streamlining, they tested and refined their creations, culminating in a thrilling race. It was inspiring to see their creativity and problem-solving skills in action, supported by concepts they’ve been studying in class.
This trip brought science to life in a way that was both educational and unforgettable. Our students returned with a deeper appreciation for the practical applications of their studies, and perhaps even a spark of inspiration for future careers in engineering or design.
We’re proud of their enthusiasm and teamwork and look forward to more opportunities to explore the wonders of science beyond the classroom.
