MPS Students lobby for Ceasefire in Gaza
MPS students Aizah (10Nutfield), Mariya (10Mercers), Zsofia (8Gatton) and Maddie (8Mercers) went to Parliament with Miss Scholz on Thursday 14 March 2024.
“It was a privilege as young people to be able to go to Parliament and tell MPs our opinions about what is happening in Gaza. I enjoyed being able to voice my opinion. There are children of all ages dying and living in conditions unbearable for privileged people like us. They don’t deserve it.” - Zsofia 8G
“We went to parliament and spoke to MPs. It was good to talk to them to tell them our opinion. The MPs were nice to talk to.” - Maddie 8M
“We had the opportunity to express our views in Parliament. The situation in Gaza is horrifying. Innocent children are being targeted and labelled as ‘collateral damage.’ The Gazans are being denied basic human rights such as clean food and water. They are humans too. It’s disgusting to see the lack of humanity this country and the world have towards these innocent people. If this were us, if it were us in this situation, we would be angered at the world for not speaking up for us. For aiding our oppressors with weapons that they would callously use to murder us. For abstaining in the ceasefire vote. For not supporting justice, while all the while they think themselves to be just and representative of what the world should be like. It’s appalling and atrocious, and I was extremely grateful for the opportunity to speak up. Visiting Parliament
gave me the opportunity to talk to MPs, express my views, and listen to speeches from other people who felt the same way as I did. I even got interviewed alongside Mariya at the end of the day.” - Aizah 10N
